Last weekend I did a few things that were very good for my soul. It was so spring-like and sunny all weekend! So I did a bunch of stuff completely unrelated to making of films.

I had dinner with different parts of my family. We ate well. We talked, laughed, and made plans. We celebrated successes and talked about ways to improve life.

I spent time in the garden. I moved some plants and built a garden wall. I put down mulch. I stood back and looked at how beautiful the results were.

I spent time with my husband. We got dressed, went downtown, and ate a delicious dinner. We drank craft cocktails and laughed a lot.

I bought a power sander. I refinished a piece of furniture so that it suits the new house. I got my hands dirty.

I stopped to look at the stars in the sky. I felt the wind in my hair. And I felt the soft grass under my feet. I felt really grounded and healthy and happy.

Why are these things relevant on a blog about making films?

Because sometimes making films has nothing to do with making films. Sometimes you just need to be good to yourself or nurture relationships with loved ones. Sometimes you have to step away from the computer or camera every now and then, and get your hands dirty. Creativity breeds more creativity.

Be good to yourself, my friends.
