The first time I heard of Alice Guy-Blaché was at Alice Fest in Durham, N.C., last March. I’ll be forever grateful to Vivian Bowman-Edwards, director of Alice Fest, for that introduction. I’m totally enthralled with Alice.

You haven’t met Alice? You’re not alone. Not many people know about her. But there are folks out there willing to share her story, and that’s got me totally pumped up right now.

Robert Redford’s the executive producer of a new documentary about Alice Guy-Blaché. She was one of the very first filmmakers. Not one of the very first female filmmakers. One of the very first filmmakers.

Redford’s doc is titled Be Natural, and it’s narrated by Jodie Foster. Their Kickstarter campaign just ended successfully, raising more than $200k for the project.

I watched the trailer for the film and got goose bumps. I can’t wait to see this doc. Scope it out when you get a minute:

Here’s hoping this turns into a beautifully crafted historica drama, eh? I’d watch that.
