This year I’m working on two new short films.

Yes, two. Making them in tandem might be odd or troublesome to certain people, but it really gets me going. These two films have been in motion for a while and things are falling into place. It feels really great.

Here’s some info on each of these two new films I’m making. Please use the comments to tell me what info you’d like about each one, and if you want to get involved.

The Short Doc

One is a short documentary that I’m absolutely ecstatic about. It’s in pre-production, although I’ve already captured a lot of footage.

Right now I’m working hard to raise support for the untitled documentary, which involves a lot of writing. Since I’ve been writing all my life, I sincerely love this stage of filmmaking.

It doesn’t make for great behind-the-scenes info, however, since it’s mostly me sitting at a computer in comfy clothes with a cup of coffee and a furrowed brow. It’s not that glorious.

We do have a big deadline coming up, though, so please keep your fingers crossed for us. If/when that first stage of support comes through, I’ll have a lot more info to share.

In the meantime, I am shooting/cutting the movie in my head, while building my team and planning the production. I’ve got a very clear vision for the film and can’t wait to see it come together.

The new documentary is about dogs! Here's a photo of my Louie, who taught me a lot about being a director.

The Short Scripted Film

Similar things are happening for the other short film, which is a scripted action sequence. If all goes according to plan, we’ll shoot the sequences at the end of February. Those dates are looming and rapidly approaching, so the pressure’s on.

But I have a lot of faith that things will come together. I’ve got a really great feeling about this one. I’m so stinking excited about it that I can hardly stand it.

This is because of the people I’m working with on the project. There are a lot of awesome people helping me make it. It feels great to pursue an idea, but it’s even more fun when that idea gets adopted by others who want to help make it come to life. It’s absolutely incredible.

More than anything, I want the folks working with me on each project to be safe, have a great time working together, and be really proud of the finished product.
